In order to improve my essay for future defence i will take on board the criticism from my previous essay and do the following:

  1. I structure me essay in essay form rather than in note form.
  2. I apply media theory with analysis and use it to develop an argument.
  3. To ensure to have a detailed conclusion is detailed and links the points I have made.
  4. To apply social, historical and political knowledge that clearly link to the question.
  5. Extensive research.

For my next essay I would like to secure a solid level 3. In order to achieve this I will need to accomplish the necessity above as well make sure to improve spelling, grammar, punctuation, terminology and making sure that when reading it is fluent.

Contemporary music videos are merely, elaborate advert, with little artistic or moral integrity.

Contemporary music videos are merely, elaborate advert, with little artistic or moral integrity.

In today’s time of music it has generally as a whole lost its roots in terms of what making music is all about but not entirely as there are still artist who make music for the music him or her. The general consensus is that artist only main interest is to make money are influenced by what their record labels want rather than focus on making great music.

There are music videos, which do merely focus on the artist image rather than the song themselves. When there are things like product placement or the artist music video have a consistent theme to it, its fair to say that they’ve lost there ways when it comes to music.

Andrew Goodwin made a point about voyeurism and how it often plays a major part especially in enticing a male audience interest in the artist and the song.

In this example Nicki Minaj music video for her song "Anaconda" there are multiple shots and angles of Nicki Minaj and her fellow back up dancers not showing her face but focusing more on physical attributes like her derriere and her chest which makes her a sexual object and conveys her sexual qualities. This is an example a music video that has more emphasis on the star image than the song itself.

Richard Dyer is another theorist who agrees that stars are fundamentally to make money. The music institution the models the stars image around the target audience.

This is an example of how as time change so does the artist in terms of what people are listening to and they use that to model the artist. Just like in todays age you won’t see Westlife being as big a success today, vice versa.

However there are artist whose music videos truly reflect the meaning of the artist whilst also upholding there artistic and morale integrity.  Andrew Goodwin explains what the music video represents for the viewer.
This is categorized in 3 steps:
1.) Analysis of the music lyrics.
2.) Main voice in song - The voice would be unique and give the artist a unique identity.
3.) There's a story within a song - The music video is created to emphasize the lyrics and the narrative of the song.

Ed Sheeran gives a great example of when the voice of the artist is unique and can be recognizes for the quality as explained by Goodwin.

Iggy Azalea helps explain Goodwin's example of a story within the lyrics and the use of music video helps emphasize her rise to fame from nothing.

He also explains how the use of music video is still used in todays age for artist to truly illustrate the meaning of the lyrics of the song.

Christina Perri music video to her song "Jar of Hearts" looks at her recalling an ex-boyfriend who wanted to reconnect after a tough breakup. which is exemplified in the music video

So overall contemporary music have both lost it ways in terms of making the artist something they could sell to make money but however as shown there are still artist that still make artist videos to go with their music.

Marketing

Green Potato Production (GPP) is our media production company that has its Irish / English roots. Our aim is to help promote Irish and English music across the Uk and Ireland.  The demographic of our audience are rock enthusiast which the majority are young white students but we also aim to target the middle age audience as well as keep to the Irish tradition of the bands music in our production.

Casting

For our media product we intend to cast different people for various roles in our music video. We intend on having a narrative/ performance and our narrative will focus on the struggle and hardship of young people trying to find work in the by showing characters from the past and the future.

The Cast:

The Protagonist

This is Adrian Garncarek who will be playing our lead role in our music video. He is a white male who is 5'11 and is 18 years old. Our aim when trying to cast our lead man was to find someone who is white and and young cause the song talks about the struggle Irish people went through and we want to portray a young Irish man as this person. As well as that we needed our lead man to play a guitar for a few scenes in our music video and he has the skills to do that we is very beneficial for us.

The Mother

This is Caitlin Arnell-Argles who will be playing our supporting role of the Mother and partner of the protagonist. She is a white female who is 5'5 with dark brown hair and brown eyes. She was casted for this role because we are trying to portray a young relationship trying to make in this world even though times are hard. She pass for an Irish woman because of her hair and her freckles.

Other Band Members

:)

I Taro Bedeau will be playing the role as one of the band members. I am a black 6'0 male and I am 19 years of age.  My role is to play the character of a young person tying to find work in todays age but is then discovered by the band leader who is played byAdrian Garncarek. The point of this is to firstly show that times have changed but we still go through the same problem today. With me playing the role it shows the viewers that the times have changed by showing that we have progress from racial times to a more diverse culture in the present.

The other band member is played by Shane O'Reeily. He is 5'7 male is 18 years of age and he was cat for this role not only because he can play an instrument but ale we wanted to make sure the band member was a young white male to play as a fellow irish man but is part of the modern times.
